What to do to your MLM Sales Funnel before you start generating traffic

It has always been my belief that you should have a developed sales funnel prior to beginning any sort of traffic generation, otherwise your efforts on traffic generation maybe effectively wasted. You’ll find many, many trainings on traffic generation, all saying how much traffic you can get to your website, your blog etc, but what real use is getting traffic to your site if they’re not joining a database or leading to sales? Exactly! There is no point; it’s like setting up a shopping centre with no shops.

When you stop to think about it, traffic generation takes effort or money and there’s no point spending that time or money when you don’t have a sales funnel to support that traffic. In other words you want to make the most out of the effort that you put into your traffic through setting a series of steps that you want your prospect to take once they enter your site.

So from this theory we can make the assumption that you need to have some sort of sales funnel in place prior to beginning to generation traffic to your website. What I thought I would do now is share with you the key aspects that you need to have developed prior to sending traffic to your website, with the key purpose of at least offsetting your marketing costs and/or time invested.

1. Develop your free and low end products

Ok first up you need a clear understanding of exactly what you are going to offer your target market. In other words you need a free training that leads into your low end product. Your low end product is generally priced between $10 to $30, is usually some sort of information product that is a training. The idea is that this product offsets your marketing expenses and provides valuable information to your target market.

2. Set up your website, list manager, squeeze pages and sales pages

Now you have developed your initial products you need to develop your website (I recommend using wordpress.org), where you are going to house your list (I recommend using aweber.com), your squeeze page (sign up page for your free product) and also your sales page (page where they can buy your low end product.

Ultimately you can determine the content of your website, however should really speak to your target market and not what you provide. Additionally you want to push your free product and make your prospect sign up for access to that, and then lead them to your sales page (whether through sending e-mails or directly linking them there after they sign up to your free training).

If you haven’t heard, I’m about to have a massive launch related to developing your online sales funnel and your online business. For details click here.

The importance of relationship building for your MLM Sales Funnel

Ok, I’ve written a lot about building online structures, whether its websites, aspects of your sales funnel or generating traffic, however one of the most important aspects of your MLM sales funnel is your ability to build relationships with those people that visit your website and that are on your list.

No matter what you’re doing online whether its traffic generation, building/launching products or product delivery your long term online success is always going to stem back to your ability to build relationships. As you know and I’ve said before your no matter what your business, 80% of your business is going to come from 20% of your customers. If you can’t establish this loyal 20% of customers then you will be forever fighting an uphill battle to Sales Funnel Success within MLM industry.

Therefore whenever you do something online, create something, post something or speak to someone you have to always keep this principle in mind and approach your list or your customers from a relationship building point of view. I guess you could say that this principle is very seldom talked about but always implied or assumed that you understand this. However I wanted to highlight to you to make sure that you do this, because it’s an extremely important part to ANY business, MLM being no exception.

So how do you do it? You should be approaching every situation online with giving people value and in particular each person should be leaving more informed, more enlightened, enriched and/or have a higher degree of understanding. Additionally your personality needs to shine through in your posts, your products and your website. Don’t be afraid to let people see the real you, because when it comes to your MLM sales funnel, nothing is more attractive to someone that been able to relate to the leader that is teaching them.

You need to become a leader, become dedicated to helping people to succeed, providing outstanding customer service and at the same time having fun and letting people see you for who you are.

What should you outsource for your MLM Sales Funnel

When it comes to internet marketing, outsourcing seems to get talked about a lot, but often people enter into doing this with very little plan for how they are going to manage their staff and what exactly you want the outsourcer to do. Ok, if you’re just starting out or even if you’ve been round a while but not had much success, then your top priority both now and potentially in the next 12 to 24 months is effectively developing your MLM sales funnel.

So you may or may not have established that you need to expand your network marketing sales funnel. If you haven’t then I recommend learning more about developing a MLM Sales Funnel (Insert link). However, if you have ultimately decided that you need to get more sales, cash or leads into your business obviously this is going to be done through further development of your sales funnel.

The number one priority for any network marketer beginning to develop their online business, is to determine what their strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to online and for that matter offline skills. In other words you really need to be doing things that you are good at or if you’re unsure about that, then its things that will make you more money. For a network marketer generally that will be creating products, finding new and improved ways of generating traffic and building relationships.

Ultimately when it comes to internet marketing, the process can be broken down into industry research, creating products, building websites/graphics, generating traffic, product delivery, customer service and sales/monetization. To be honest any and every step in this process can be outsourced, however when you are just beginning in this industry, this is simply not an option. Therefore I would highly recommend beginning with outsourcing building websites/graphics, in particular the more complex parts of websites, like html, css, including sales pages. This will ultimately help you with conversions.

Beyond that you should begin to generate traffic, find what works well then outsource these so that you can concentrate on new ways to generate traffic and increase conversions. Additionally put in place a good customer service person, who can trouble shoot customer problems and deal with servicing the customers. You can eventually expand from there but that is without a doubt the best places to start.

Why you don’t have a network marketing sales funnel

Through working with my team and consulting with a number of people in the home based business industry, I often find it surprising that a lot of people within the network marketing industry don’t entirely understand the importance of an online sales funnel. However you look around at other industries and this seems to be a phenomenon that is congruent across both traditional and network marketing industries, with one important exception. In a traditional business sense the business owner has a service or product that they are offering, and hence they have a part of their sales funnel in place.

The underlying tendency for a network marketer online is to approach online the exactly the same way as they would approach offline MLM building. This is the ultimate cause of the problem, in other words there is a lack of strategy when it comes to their online sales funnel. When you look at offline network building strategies, it solely concentrates on the number of people you “expose” and therefore sponsor.

Let me tell you right now that these figures are almost irrelevant to your online network marketing sales funnel. When you are moving your business online, there are more figures you need to worry about, but this will ultimately increase the quality and quantity of people you sponsor. Initially you need to stop worrying about the number of people you are sponsoring, but instead, what process you are going to take your prospects through, what value you are going to offer, what makes you unique and how you are going to deliver that value. In other words you want to set your business up to the point where people are asking to join you instead of you having to chase people and find prospects.

Again this all comes back to your ability to deliver value; if you concentrate on delivering value then you can truly write your own ticket to a success MLM business and a successful network marketing sales funnel. The key ingredients you need as part of your sales funnel are free, low end, mid range and high end products, sponsoring people in your MLM should always be the last step in your funnel.

Before you continue you need to understand the key elements in a sales funnel, so make sure you check out my free audio training if you haven’t already done so, with much more exciting and free trainings to come  :) .

A useful tool for your online network marketing sales funnel

One of the most critical aspects to long term success in internet marketing, and in this respect in regards to network marketing online, is testing, tracking and tweaking your sales funnel. In particular, I wanted to give you an idea of why you need to be using one of Google’s lesser known online tools, Google Website Optimizer, with particular emphasis on testing your sales funnel.

Obviously when you have set out to start creating your online network marketing sales funnel you have done considerable research into your competition and target market, you’ve developed some highly targeted products and you’ve set up a process for your prospects to move through. However we all know that your target market, competition and business in general NEVER remain the same. There are always forces that act upon them that will change what they are looking for or how they operate. It is for this reason that you have a duty to YOUR network marketing business and in particular to your sales funnel to evolve and move with your target market, but stay ahead of your competition.

To stay ahead you need a sales funnel that ultimately converts better than your competition, and the way to do that is test everything you are doing, down to the minute details of your squeeze pages, sales pages and website in general. That’s exactly the mindset you need to take into your online network marketing.

So essentially what Google Website Optimizer allows you to do is run different versions of your different website pages, and each time it will randomly alternate the different versions of that page. What I recommend is taking one variable of the website, e.g. the title (it could be the content of the title or it could be the colour of the title) and then test your existing title with one or two alternatives. From there you wait until each page has been visited 400 times (why 400? Good question. But someone has actually tested how many website visitors you need to make an informed decision about what’s better and 400 come up as the key number).

In addition to Google Website Optimizer you should then be testing conversions with Google Analytics, therefore you will be able to differentiate how many opt ins came from the different versions of your website. In essence all you are doing is taking one element within your sales page or squeeze page and trying to improve it by testing different versions against each other. Very simple concept. Very few people do it and hence why so many people have in effective online network marketing sales funnels.
