The Importance of the Daily Ritual

One of the most underrated aspects to success and undoubtedly one of the areas of failure for most people is not having a daily ritual in terms of engraining habits of success into their daily routines.

We’ve all heard it before how important goal planning is, of getting the not urgent but important things done and managing our time effectively. However one thing that is so often neglected is the importance of putting into perspective our goals, our current life situation and how that relates to the tasks that we set ourselves for the day.

It is very easy to begin the day without the end in mind and therefore the productivity or the tasks that you think are important aren’t in fact moving you towards your goals. If you are guilty of falling into this trap then it is important for you to begin each day with the end in mind.

Some of the best advice that I have been given in terms of personal development and business management is to set aside 1 hour (or less if you don’t have an hour) every day, to firstly be think about those things that you are thankful for in your life currently. After that think about your goals, whether it’s short term, medium term or long term, and then think about what you want to accomplish for the day.

This may seem basic or even a waste of time to you but its amazing how much clarity you can gain by approaching every day with this daily ritual. It gives your day direction; it gets you fired up towards your goals and sets your tasks based on those goals that you are working towards.

You can literally do this personal development hour anywhere but I personally think it’s great to walk while you’re doing this. Additionally sometimes I do the first two activities walking and then complete the last activity at my desk because I’ve gained that perspective. Something additional that has really helped me is to have a photo of a house/car or a cheque to myself for a large sum of money so that I visually have something to strive towards and visually gives me a goal that I can touch and see.

I challenge you to come up with a daily ritual for yourself to, start each day with the end in mind and accomplish those tasks that are truly going to move you towards your goals.
